Vintage Miniature Eggshell Porcelain Vases, Hand Painted in Japan

I found these incredible little eggshell porcelain vases at an antique store off of Hwy. 101 just south of Willits, California. There were four, but I accidentally broke one before I even got out of the store - what a drag.

Eggshell porcelain vases are widely collected because they are close to spotlessly white, translucent, and quite beautifully resonant when tapped, though as I learned - don't tap them.

Eggshell porcelain is mainly made into vases, bowls, and cups. The porcelain is then skillfully and carefully hand painted with wonderful reeds, flowers, trees, or birds.

These three miniature vases are stark white with botanical paintings. Two are in excellent condition - just smooth as silk all over; while one has just a few tiny - and I mean tiny - rough spots around the mouth - not chips per se, just rough spots. They are hard to see and are not sharp to the touch.

These three little cuties are just waiting for a new forever home - will it be yours?

The vases measure just 3 1/2" tall.

What a magnificent display in your study, den, office, or hutch.
